Thumler's Tumbler Instructions

Thumler's Tumbler is a rock tumbler used to polish gemstones, clean cartridges, brass and other metals. These tumblers are extensively used by dedicated hobbyists, labs, schools and industry for many different tumbling and mixing operations. Tumblers come in two different types: rotary and vibratory. Rotary tumblers are quieter and last longer than vibratory tumblers, but they will cost more. Vibratory tumblers do not alter the shape of the stone, only rounding it much more quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the rock tumbler about three-quarters of the way with the raw gemstones.

    • 2

Add water until the water line comes just under the rock line. You should be able to see the water line, but the rocks should not be fully submerged.

    • 3

Add the correct amount of grit to the rock/water mixture according to the tumbling process chart. The step details differ according to the amount of weight that the tumbler will hold.

    • 4

Let each step of the tumbling process run for seven to 10 days.
