How to Restore Old Photos

Most everyone has old photos that need restoring. But getting rid of white marks, age spots and scratches can seem near impossible. But thanks to today's technology restoring old photos is basically a breeze with the right software. The following steps makes use of Paint Shop Pro, a photo-editing software.

Instructions

    • 1

Scan the photos you're looking to restore into your computer.

    • 2

Open the photos in Paint Shop Pro.

    • 3

Select the Magnifying tool and use it to zoom in on the trouble spot you're looking to fix. Practice using the tool a few times so you get used to zooming in and out with the tool.

    • 4

Click on "Selection Tool" and choose the "Toggle Tool" option. A box will open up and in the "Selection" box write "Circle" and in the "Feather" box choose "0" and make sure the "Antialias" box is checked.

    • 5

Use your mouse to click as near as you can get to a trouble spot and drag it to form a small circle. The closer you get to the trouble spot the better the restoration will be on your photos.

    • 6

Copy the section you've created, deselect the circle tool and paste the area you copied dragging it over the retouched area. Voila, the old ugly spot on your photo is not good as new.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for all of the spots on your photos to complete the restoration process.
