How to Geocache Using a Phone

Geocaching is a treasure-hunting game in which GPS-enabled mobile phones are used to find caches. Mobile applications such as Trimble's Geocache Navigator and Groundspeak's Geocaching simplify the process of finding and logging caches by giving users instant access to directional coordinates, helpful hints and more cache locations in their immediate area. If you have access to a mobile application store, chances are you will be able to use your phone to embark on a geocaching adventure.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the application store serving your mobile phone and look for a compatible geocaching application that will work on your phone brand and model. Trimble Geocaching Navigator, for example, is available for Sprint, Nextel, Boost and Southern Linc mobile phone users. Some Blackberry and Nokia cellphone users can also use this application. Groundspeak's Geocaching application is available for iPhone, Android and Windows 7 mobile phone users. Read reviews to get the opinions of other users and determine which application is best suited to your needs.

Download and install a geocaching application to your mobile phone. If a fee is charged for the app you've selected, you'll need to have a payment method on file with the app store. Confirmed your purchase and the app will be installed on your phone.

Open the application to find caches in your area. Depending on the application you are using, you can search for caches based on your current GPS coordinates or a specific street address or zip code. If you are planning a geocaching adventure to one specific cache location, you can also search for other caches in the general vicinity of your target cache.
