How to Upload Geocaches to the Oregon 400T

Using the Oregon 400T hand-held GPS receiver, you can participate in a popular GPS treasure-hunting game known as "geocaching." To begin playing, all you need to do is create a free online account with one of the geocaching websites and install a plug-in so your Oregon 400T receiver can upload cache data directly to your device. Once uploaded, you simply select the cache you want to locate and your device will direct you to the cache using its built-in GPS technology.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Web browser and go to the Garmin.com website to download and install the Garmin Communicator plug-in on your computer. This accessory makes it possible for your GPS device to communicate with geocaching websites so you can upload cache data directly to your Oregon 400T.

    • 2

Go to the Geocaching homepage at "geocaching.com." If you aren't a member, you will need to create a username and password to access the site. Basic membership is free.

    • 3

Search for caches based on address, postal code, state, country or GPS coordinates.

    • 4

Click on the "GPS" icon next to each cache on your search results page that you want to upload to your Oregon 400T. You must have your GPS device plugged in to your computer before initiating the data transfer.

    • 5

Click on the "Garmin" tab to begin the upload. If the Garmin Communicator plug-in is not detected on your computer, you will be prompted to download and install it. Click "Find Devices" to connect your Oregon 400T to the geocaching website, then click "Write" to begin the upload.

Repeat this procedure for every cache that you want to upload to your device. When you have uploaded all of your cache data, you can disconnect the Oregon 400T from your computer.
