How to Geocache With Google Maps

Imagine if hide-and-go-seek became a global game organized through the Internet and global positioning satellites. Mix that with a treasure hunt and you have a good idea of what geocaching is all about. Caches are hidden all over the world and tagged with GPS coordinates on a website. Anyone can look up the coordinates and track down the cache then log the find on the website. Since Google Maps can read GPS coordinates you can plug in the information from the geocaching site to Google Maps and track down your prize.

Instructions

    • 1

Browse to your geocaching site of choice, for example Geocaching.com. Find a geocache you want to locate via Google Maps. Click on the link to see the details for the cache.

    • 2

Highlight the GPS coordinates. Copy the text by pressing "Ctrl+C." Browse to Maps.Google.com, and then click in the search field. Press "Ctrl+V" to paste in the text then press "Enter." Google Maps will put a green arrow at the spot specified by the coordinates.

    • 3

Click the green arrow then click "Directions." Type in your location in the top box on the left then press "Get Directions." Follow the directions to the location of the geocache.
