How to Survive Gears of War on Hardcore Difficulty

When they say "hardcore," they aren't joking. The Locusts are tougher, ammo is nowhere near as plentiful and most bosses will still pulp you in a single hit. In case you find yourself rocking Casual difficulty but getting trashed on Hardcore, here's a little something that may help ease the pain.

Instructions

    • 1

Aim for the head. Start by aiming low, then hold the trigger down. The gun will naturally "walk" upwards, allowing you the chance for a headshot. This is very important, as it will take down Locusts a lot faster than shooting them in the leg!

    • 2

Learn to blind-shoot. Once you get into cover, blind-shooting is an excellent way to take a shot at the enemy without exposing yourself. Just get into cover and press the "fire" trigger without pressing the other trigger to aim.

    • 3

Close those Grub-Holes! While this was important on Casual difficulty, closing Grub-Holes with grenades is critical on Hardcore. A long, drawn-out firefight can quickly drain your ammo, leaving you short-handed for the next fight.

    • 4

Grab the Longshot whenever you see it! While the sniper rifle does take an additional shot to bring down most Locusts, it is still a valuable tool. It comes in particularly handy against Boomers and Grubs using Troikas.

    • 5

Aim for the legs when attacking a Troika user. If you are forced to face a Troika head-on, aim for the legs. There is only a small part of the user exposed, but the legs are where you can get the best shots in. Make sure your targeting vector turns red before you shoot.

    • 6

Get used to dying. Even if you're a good player, you're still going to be doing a lot of it.
