Specifications
Among its semiconductors, the IC-471A includes 110 transistors and 178 diodes for frequency coverage in FM, USB, LSB or CW between the 430MHz and the 440MHz range. A CPU-based 10Hz step PLL synthesizer controls the frequency, allowing for independent transmit-receive frequency capability and 32 memory channels, with each channel storing not only the operating frequency but also the mode, the duplex/simplex and the sub-audible tone frequency.
Features
The IC-471A features multi-purpose scanning, permitting memory scan, program scan and auto-stop scanning. Memory scanning enables users to monitor all 32 memory channels or just the selected channels set to a specific mode. Program scanning allows for jumping back and forth between two specified frequencies. With auto-stop scanning, the receiver continually scans until the receiver detects a signal. Once a scan completes, regardless of mode, the scan resumes after a predetermined amount of time, usually 10 seconds.
Panels
The IC-471A's front panel includes a large luminescent LED display across the top for easy reading. The display indicates the frequency as well as other vital information like the duplex mode, the operating mode, the scan mode and the VFO in use. The panel's layout also accommodates a 1.97-inch diameter tuning knob, an RF meter, a mic connector, a headphone jack, seven control knobs, nine buttons and 18 switches.
Users may access additional adjustment controls, such as the CW delay control and the VOX delay control, through a trapdoor in the transceiver's top panel. The rear panel includes a ground terminal, the antenna connector, the external speaker jack, a key jack, a DC power socket, an optional built-in AC power supply socket position and an optional accessory socket position.
Options
The IC-471A comes equipped with a 600-ohm electret condenser microphone with push-to-talk capability that plugs directly into the front panel. The transceiver utilizes an N jack antenna, with the manufacturer recommending a 50-ohm antenna for optimal fixed or mobile performance. The transceiver also has a dial lock switch and a carrying handle to further aid with mobile operation.
