How to Use APRSLink With Winaprs

APRSLink is a radio email system developed to allow radio operators to send and receive emails over the APRS radio packet system. Operators can send and receive messages from APRS-enabled radios or from APRS software such as WinAPRS. APRSLink automatically breaks down emails into multiple small messages to fit the characteristics of the receiving device.

Instructions

  1. Set Up Your System

    • 1

Download and install client software from the Winlink 2000 website. The preferred software is RMS Express, but Winlink supports other clients.

    • 2

Send a test message using the Winlink 2000 client software to any email address. This will establish a Winlink email address of "<yourcallsign>@winlink.org."

    • 3

Download and install WinAPRS from the APRS website.

    Send Email

    • 4

Start WinAPRS and bring up the message interface by pressing "F7" or selecting the "List" menu and choosing "New Message."

    • 5

Enter "WLNK-1" in the To: field.

    • 6

Enter "SP <destination> <subject>" in the Msg: field. Replace "<destination>" with the callsign, email address or alias of the recipient. Replace "<subject>" with the subject line of your email. Click "OK."

    • 7

Repeat the steps, but enter one line of your email in the Msg: field. Continue creating one-line messages until the email is complete.

    • 8

Send the message "/EX" to finish the message, which will now be sent by the APRSLink system.

    Receive Email

    • 9

Send the message "L" to WLNK-1 to list your pending messages. These are messages sent to your callsign, or emails sent to your Winlink email address.

    • 10

Send the message "R#", replacing "#" with the number of the message, to read your pending messages.
