Shakespeare 318-GBT Vertical Antenna Instructions

The Shakespeare 318-GBT antenna, called a pogo stick by some because of its look, is a reliable and functional antenna for any ham radio operator. It has a smaller profile than some antennae, and it's already been tuned and fiddled with at the factory. This means that all you need to do to install it is to set up the antenna and hook it up to your radio.

Things You'll Need

  • Mounting bracket
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Attach a mounting bracket to a hard surface to support the antenna. Whether it's a stone outcrop, a concrete pad or the frame of your roof, screw the mounting bracket into the hard surface using the included hardware. This bracket forms the base for your antenna, and is its primary support.

    • 2

Place your antenna in the mounting bracket. Once the antenna is in place, attach the bolts that hold it to the mounting bracket. Once attached, connect the cables to your radio. This may require you to run the cables down through your roof if mounting it on your house, or through the wall if mounting it outside, but once the cables are connected, the antenna is technically ready to use.

    • 3

Add any additional bracing that your antenna may require. Attaching cables to stakes to keep the antenna straight or creating a cage to help the antenna resist the effects of wind can add more stability, but isn̵7;t required for mounting the Shakespeare 318-GBT antenna.
