How to Replace the Dial Cord in a Hallicrafters TW-1000

The Hallicrafters TW-1000 is a vintage 8-band transoceanic radio. This technology, which was advanced for its time, allowed owners to tune into radio waves from across the world, as well as ship and aircraft communications, police bands and marine weather reports. The Hallicrafters was powered by five vacuum tubes and a selenium rectifier and could run off either DC or AC power. The tuning dial of the radio was outfitted with a dial cord. This cord was wrapped around the tuning dial and several small sprocket-like pulleys inside the radio. Dial cords are subject to wear and can even pop. Replacement takes about an hour.
