How to Adjust an Icom IC-7600 Main Tuning Knob Tension

The ICOM IC-7600 is a high-end amateur radio transceiver that sends and receives signals over most available ham radio frequencies. Its advanced features include PC connectivity, dual DSP (digital signal processing) circuitry for optimal transmitting and receiving, and a user-friendly control panel with a digital readout. The control panel includes a rotary tuning knob for changing frequency, and you can adjust the tension of the knob depending on your preference for a heavier or lighter touch. No tools are necessary to adjust the tension of the main tuning knob, as the IC-7600 is equipped with a dial tension adjustment lever.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the main dial brake adjustment lever below the main tuning dial at the bottom right of your IC-7600 control panel. It is a small protruding plastic handle located in the center of the gap under the main tuning dial.

    • 2

Slide the adjustment lever to the left if you prefer a heavier touch or to the right if you prefer a lighter touch, using a finger or thumb of one hand. Rotate the dial evenly in either direction while you adjust the position of the lever, using the other hand. It does not matter in which direction you rotate the dial so long as you rotate it in only one direction.

    • 3

Release the lever and stop rotating the dial once you feel that you have selected the degree of tension that is comfortable for you.

    • 4

Select a frequency using the dial and make sure you are comfortable with it. If not, repeat Steps 1-3 until you select the preferred level of tension that is right for you. You can re-adjust the tension of the main tuning knob of your ICOM IC-7600 at any time.
