How to Assemble an lcom IC-24AT

The Icom IC-24AT is a portable, handheld dual-band frequency-modulated amateur radio transceiver. This easy-to-use, yet full-featured transceiver is discontinued as of this writing, but used and refurbished units are available from private sellers. It is practically ready to use the moment you remove it from its box, but some minor assembly is required. The assembly involves connecting the antenna, rain protector cap, battery pack, handstrap and belt clip to the main transceiver unit. Once you have done this, you can charge your transceiver for the first time and begin to use it.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the transceiver and all included parts from the packing material. Place the ring of the rainproof cap, which consists of a ring to which a plastic cover is attached, over the antenna terminal, which is the metal protrusion on top of your transceiver unit. Press it down as far as it goes onto the terminal housing.

    • 2

Line up the bottom mounting flange of the antenna with the transceiver antenna terminal and twist the antenna to the left until the pins on the terminal snap into the holes on the antenna mounting flange.

    • 3

Thread the loop at the end of the hand strap through the hand strap mounting bracket on the end of the transceiver near the tuning knob so that the loop faces the two jacks on top of the transceiver. Thread the free end of the hand strap through the loop and pull the hand strap tightly.

    • 4

Turn your transceiver over so that the display screen faces away from you. Remove the two screws in the back of the housing toward the top. Line the mounting holes of your belt clip up with the screw holes, and fasten the clip with the screws that you removed.

    • 5

Line up the notched ends of your battery pack with the notched ends on the back of your transceiver. Slide the battery pack to the left until you hear a clicking sound.
