Things You'll Need
Instructions
Mount your antenna as high as possible. The higher a CB antenna is, the better your reception and range will be. Since you have a base antenna, you can mount the antenna on your roof or on an appropriate pole driven into the ground and held in place with concrete. Antennae come with mounting brackets, but the higher up you put your antenna, the more reinforcement it's going to need to resist wind and elemental damage.
Eliminate interference as much as possible. For example, running lights up your support pole can interfere with the signal due to the flow of electricity. Additionally, minimize the electromagnetic signals you put out and the radio interference you can create through building wireless hotspots or transmitting on other radio bands. If you locate the pole by itself farther away from the house, it will be more isolated from interference, which will improve reception.
Avoid natural obstacles to reception. If you're surrounded by large, concrete buildings, they will naturally block out radio waves unless you can get your antenna up above them. Tall hills or walls will also affect reception. When choosing where to put your antenna, survey the surrounding land and select a location that is not only the highest, but that will have the best vantage point for overcoming features that may block radio waves.
