How to Modify a Yaesu FT-897D Frequency

Yaesu's FT-897D multimode, portable transceiver operates on the amateur MF, HF, VHF and UHF bands. Coverage of the 160-10 meter bands plus the 6 m, 2 m, and 70 cm bands is included, as is Single Side Band functionality. The U.S. version also provides 60-meter coverage. Modifying the frequency on the radio is performed differently depending on whether you are using Single Side Band, CW, and Digital modes, or using AM, FM or Packet modes.

Instructions

    • 1

Rotate the "Dial" knob to finely modify the frequency in "SSB/CW/DIG" modes. The "Dial" knob is in the center of the front panel and is the larger of the five knobs. Clockwise rotation of the knob increases the FT-897D's frequency in small increments.

    • 2

Turn the "MEM/VFO CH" knob to modify the frequency in "AM/FM/PKT" modes. The MEM/VFO CH" knob is the uppermost right-hand knob. Again, clockwise rotation increases the frequency.

    • 3

Rotate the "MEM/VFO CH" knob to modify the frequency in large steps in "SSB/CW/DIG" modes. Turning it clockwise increases frequency in large increments. Then use the "Dial" knob to fine tune.

    • 4

Press the "MEM/VFO CH" knob quickly and then rotate it to change frequencies in 1-MHz steps. This is good for the VHF and UHF bands.
