How to Use the Yaesu G-5500

Yaesu's G-5500 is used for controlling azimuth and elevation on unidirectional satellite antenna arrays remotely. The device has a pointing accuracy of plus or minus four percent. Its rotator units are mounted on the mast together, or independently with the azimuth rotator in a tower and the elevation rotator on the mast. The controller and its included dual meters and direction controls are positioned at the station operating position adjacent to the radio.

Instructions

    • 1

Perform an initial adjustment of the two meters by switching the G-5500 off and adjusting the "0.ADJ" screws beneath each meter face so that the needles are pointed at the left of the printed scale.

    • 2

Turn the controller on and adjust the azimuth indicator by pressing and holding the left switch labeled "Left (CCW)" and let the azimuth rotator turn until it reaches its stop position. Note the exact position of the rotator by marking the housing. Press and hold the right switch labeled "Right (CW)" until the rotator comes back to the same position. The meter should now point to 360-degrees of the scale. If it does not, adjust the potentiometer screw labeled "Full Scal Adj" on the back of the meter above the "Azimuth" terminals until it does. Continue the right movement to the end stop which should make the indicator point to the extreme right of the scale, at 90 degrees.

    • 3

Adjust the elevation indicator by pressing the "Up" switch to align the 180-degree markers on the rotator. The meter should point to 180 degrees at the right end of the scale. If it does not, adjust the screw labeled "Full Scal Adj" on the back of the meter above the "Elevation" terminals.

    • 4

Change the elevation by pressing the "Up" or "Down" switch. Change the azimuth with the "Left (CCW)" and "Right (CW)" switch.
