How to Use Antenna Tuners With the ICOM 707

Icom's IC-707 HF transceiver's send and receive functions can be improved through the use of antenna tuners including Icom tuners from the AT and AH range. Tuners provide reliable matching of frequencies and the IC-707 features a "Tune" switch that immediately adjusts compatible tuners to the minimum SWR in any frequency. Using an antenna tuner with this Icom HF radio only involves installing it and making adjustments.

  Connect the tuner to the radio by hooking the tuner inline between the IC-707 and the antenna. All tuners hook up slightly differently including Icom tuners from the AT and AH range. Check the included documentation. A hookup, as in the AT-150, could be the Antenna lead to "ANT 1" on the tuner; the "Ground" from the tuner to the "Ground" on the radio; the "ACC" cable between jacks labeled "ACC" and the coax between the jack labeled "Transceiver" on the tuner and the "ANT" jack on the radio.

  Set the frequency you'd like to operate on with the main dial on the IC-707. Confirm the frequency on the display.

  Press the button labeled "Tuner" for 2 seconds and the tuner light will flash while tuning is taking place. The button is just below the "Power" switch. The light will become solid on completion of the tuning. Tune the radio with the tuner each time the operating frequency changes.
