Instructions for the ICOM IC-PS15

The Icom IC-PS15 is an AC power supply that was manufactured by the Japanese amateur radio supplier Icom for use with its IC-720 ham radio transceiver. It allowed users of the IC-PS15 to use their transceivers as base stations with household current rather than as mobiles with car or boat battery power. Both the IC-PS15 and the radio for which it was designed are discontinued as of this writing, but vintage units may be available from private sellers. You can use the power supply with any amateur radio transceiver that requires a 13.8 volt DC, 20 ampere source of power.

  Ground the "GND Terminal" at the back of the IC-PS15 by attaching a short piece of wire to it.

  Turn your amateur radio transceiver off. Disconnect the microphone from the transceiver and make sure the transmit/receive switch or setting is in the "receive" position.

  Insert the round plug on the end of the DC power output cable to the power jack of your IC-720 or other transceiver. Attach an adapter to the plug if it does not fit the jack of your particular receiver.

  Plug the AC power cord into a regular household electrical outlet.

  Turn on your transceiver and make sure the power display LED at the top right-hand corner of your IC-PS15 power supply is lit.

  Use your transceiver as you normally would.
