How to Use DTMF on an Icom IC-T90A

Icom's IC-T90A multi-band transceiver can be operated on the 50 MHz, 144 MHz and 430 MHz bands. The device has a wideband receiver, so you can also listen to short wave, AM and FM broadcasts as well as public safety communication, like police and fire. The memory bank provides for 555 alpha-numeric memory channels and a lithium-ion battery can deliver five to six hours of operating time. DTMF codes can be used and stored for auto patching, accessing repeaters and other controls.

Instructions

    • 1

Program a DTMF code by pushing the "DTMF" button for one second to enter "DTMF Memory." Then rotate the dial to the DTMF channel you'd like to use. Push the "DTMF" button again to enter programming mode. Then input the characters with the keys: "VFO" inputs "A," "MR" inputs "B," "CALL/TV" inputs "C," "BAND" inputs "D," the dot inputs "*" and "E" plus "MODE" inputs "F." Up to 16 digits can be programmed. Press "SQL" to program the code into memory and exit.

    • 2

Retrieve a DTMF code by setting the frequency you'd like to use, push the "DTMF" button for one second to enter "DTMF Memory" and rotate the dial to the stored DTMF channel. Push "VFO" to exit "DTMF" memory.

    • 3

Depress the push-to-talk switch, and at the same time push "SQL." The retrieved DTMF code will be transmitted.
