Physical Specifications
The Icom IC-208H measures 5 9⁄16 inches wide by 1 9⁄16 inches high by 7 5⁄16 inches deep. It weighs 2.65 pounds.
Frequency Range
The American version of this unit is guaranteed to receive and transmit over frequencies from 144 to 148 and 440 to 450 MHz on the FM, FM-N and AM bands. The working transmission range is from 144 to 148 and from 420 to 450 MHz, and the working reception range is from 118 to 173.995, 230 to 549.995 and 810 to 999.990 MHz, except that cellular phone reception is blocked on the highest range to conform to security and privacy standards. AM-N bands are also available on a receive-only basis, but reception is not guaranteed. Frequency stability is plus or minus 10 parts per million between 14 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
Memory and Tuning
Band frequency selections can be saved in 512 memory channels, including two call and 10 scan edges. Tuning steps include 5, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, 100 and 200kHz increments.
Power and Antenna Specifications
This unit works with a DC power supply of 13.8 volts plus or minus 15 percent. Therefore, it is compatible with 12 volt automobile and marine electrical systems. At 13.8 volts, current drain is 0.8 amperes in stand-by mode, 12 amperes in VHF transmit mode and 11.5 amperes in UHF transmit mode. The current drain at maximum audio output is 1.0 amperes. It is compatible with an antenna rated for 50 ohms using the SO-239 standard antenna connector.
Transmitter Specifications
The VHF output power of this transceiver can be adjusted to 55 watts, 15 watts or 5 watts. Its UHF output power can be adjusted to 50 watts, 15 watts or 5 watts. The maximum frequency deviation is plus or minus 5 KHz at the wide end of the frequency range and 2.5 KHz at the narrow end. Spurious emissions are restricted to less than -60 decibels. The microphone connector is a 600 ohm, 8-pin modular jack.
Receiver Specifications
The first intermediate frequency for the receiver function of this unit is 46.05 Mhz and the second is 450 Khz. Sensitivity is rated at less than 0.18 microvolts for the 144/430 Mhz band at 12 decibels signal-to-noise distortion ratio and squelch sensitivity is rated at 0.13 picovolts at the threshold for the 144/430 MHz band. Selectivity is over 12 KHz wide and 6 KHz narrow at -6 decibels and under 30 KHz wide and 20 KHz narrow at -60 decibels. The spurious rejection ratio is more than 60 decibels. Audio output at 13.8 volts DC is over 2 watts, and distortion is 10 percent with an 8 ohm load.
