How to Repair a Yaesu Home Radio

Yaesu makes ham radios for both home and mobile use. Yaesu has a line of home-based ham radios like the FT DX 5000 series. Yaesu radio owners can encounter issues with signal interference. One way of reducing or eliminating this problem is with the roofing filter. Yaesu home radios include a roofing filter that protects the radio from strong signals that interfere with the radio's reception. Setting the roofing filter improves your listening pleasure and helps keep the radio operating efficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the "A" button on the front of your radio. When the button turns red, the VFO-A receiver is activated.

    • 2

Adjust the "R.FLT" knob up and down. This sets the bandwidth for the roofing filter. For example, if there's a very crowded phone band, choose a narrow filter such as 3 kHz. The bandwidth options are 15 kHz, 6 kHz, 3 kHz, 300 Hz and 600 Hz. The bandwidth options are listed under the column labeled "R.FLT."

    • 3

Push the "R.FLT" knob in for one to two seconds. The roofing filter is set on "Auto." In auto mode, the Yaesu radio memorizes your bandwidth settings.
