How to Change the Offset YAESU 2800

Radio repeaters use two frequencies--one to receive a signal, the other to repeat the received signal and send it on. When a radio is tuned into a repeater, it needs to be tuned into both frequencies so that the radio can communicate fully. The Yaesu FT-2800 operates on the 144 MHz amateur band, which in the U.S. uses an offset of 600 MHz. That means, there's 600 MHz between receiving and sending. This radio ships with this offset in memory; sometimes (when traveling, for example) you might want to change it.

Instructions

    • 1

Press and hold the "MHz Set" key for a second, then rotate the dial knob to "24 SHIFT."

    • 2

Press the "MHz Set" key again, then turn the dial to the offset that you want to set. Your repeater operator will be able to tell you what this number should be. Repeater shifts are in 50 KHz multiples.

    • 3

Press and hold the "MHz Set" key again for a second and use the radio as you would normally. Now when you program a repeater into memory, the radio will send at one frequency and receive at the frequency plus or minus the offset you programmed. Don't forget to set it back to 600 MHz when you return to using the radio at 144 MHz in the U.S.
