How to Hook Up an MFJ-1026 to a Yaesu FT-1000MP

In some cases, noise interference may cause trouble for amateur radio operators during communications with other amateurs. The solution to this problem might be as simple as adding a noise-cancellation device like the MFJ-1026. This will help eliminate those problem noises and assist the amateur in pulling out weaker signals that might have otherwise been covered up.

Things You'll Need

  • Short run of RG-58 coaxial cable
  • Two-conductor shielded cable
  • MFJ-1312B power adapter

Instructions

    • 1

Place the MFJ-1026 close to the transceiver. Disconnect the antenna coax running into the "Ant A" port of the FT-1000MP. Take a short run of coax and attach one end to the "Radio" connector of the MFJ-1026 and the "Ant A" connector of the transceiver.

    • 2

Take the cable that you disconnected from the transceiver and connect it to the connector on the MFJ-1026 labeled "Main Antenna."

    • 3

Choose whether you would like to use a secondary antenna or the internal telescoping with which to perform the noise cancellation functions. This antenna can be a secondary antenna not in use at the moment. If choosing the secondary antenna route, connect the coax to the "Auxiliary Antenna" input.

    • 4

Connect a short run of two-conductor shielded cable to the "T/R Control" jack of the MFJ-1026. Connect the other end to the "PTT" jack of the transceiver itself.

    • 5

Attach the power supply cable to the "Power Jack" of the MFJ-1026. The manufacturer recommends the MFJ-1312B power adapter.

    • 6

Turn on the MFJ-1026 and use the dials on the front of the device to change the settings to your liking. Refer to the User's Manual for more details on the specifics of each setting.
