How to Replace the Backup Battery on a Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark-V

The Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V includes an internal battery which allows the transceiver to hold stored configuration and saved frequency data even when it is disconnected from power for up to five years. That said, from time to time the battery may require replacement. Installation of the battery should take less than 10 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • CR2032 battery

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect all cables and the power cord from the transceiver, and gently turn it over so the bottom is facing upwards.

    • 2

Unscrew the four screws holding the case onto the chassis on either side of the transceiver. Unscrew the seven screws along on the bottom of the transceiver. Remove the bottom of the case when this is complete.

    • 3

Turn the transceiver over, and remove the six screws on the top of the case. Remove the top of the case, making sure to disconnect the attached speaker cable. Set both parts of the case aside.

    • 4

Locate the battery within the transceiver, which is on the CNTL unit board located on the underside of the radio, and is circular and flat in shape. Turn the radio over to complete the install. Remove the old battery by pushing it first inward and then up and outward. Discard the old battery. Note the polarity so that the new battery is installed identically.

    • 5

Install the new battery by following the removal steps in reverse. When complete, take the bottom of the removed case, reattach to the chassis and screw in using the seven screws removed during disassembly. Turn the transceiver over.

    • 6

Reconnect the speaker cable to the speaker on the top of the case, and reattach the top case to the chassis. Screw back in using the six original screws. Rettach all cables and the power source.
