Installation of the Kenwood VGS-1

The Kenwood VGS-1 is a voice guide and storage unit for ham radios that registers vocal confirmation of frequencies and records transmissions received by the radio transmitter in which it is installed. The unit records up to 90 seconds of transmission, which is stored in Flash ROM for playback. It also has a constant record feature, which instantly plays back the last 30 seconds of transmission. The VGS-1 plugs directly into your radio's transceiver.

Instructions

  Unscrew the screws located on the back panel of the radio. Remove the panel to expose the inside.

  Attach the appropriate cushion (supplied with the VGS-1 unit) to the top surface of the VGS-1. There are five total cushions supplied with the VGS-1, varied in sizes. The cushions help support the unit after installation to prevent warping and rattling, as well as eliminate interference. Use the cushion that fits between the VGS-1 unit and the adjacent transceiver wall.

  Attach the appropriate cushion to the circuit board of the VGS-1. Use the cushion that fits between the circuit board of the VGS-1 and the adjacent transceiver wall.

  Insert the VGS-1 unit into the voice guide connector in the transceiver. Press down on the VGS-1 with your hand to snap the unit into place. No solder is needed.

  Replace the back panel of the radio and secure by screwing the screws back into place.
