How to Change the Station Address for a Ham Radio

Ham radio is a hobby that is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission, which awards licenses based on the successful completion of a series of training and tests. After being awarded a Ham radio license, the FCC requires the licensee to update the primary station address when relocating. When an address is updated with the FCC, the information is entered into a database and a new copy of the license, with updated address imprinted thereon, is sent to the licensee. The FCC provides a "Universal Licensing System" (ULS) online for administering license information.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate an area where Internet access is provided if you have no access at home. This may include Internet cafes, public libraries and universities.

    • 2

Browse to the FCC Universal Licensing System website online. Locate the section near the top of the page labeled "New Users" and click on the button named "Register".

    • 3

Fill out all of the information, including name, address, phone number and email address. Once completed, click on the "Submit" button at the bottom of the registration page. The FCC will send a validation email to the email address you provided.

    • 4

Check for the FCC email in you in-box. Once the email arrives, read it carefully as it will provide a link which must be clicked to validate the registration, as well as an FRN number and a password. Once the link is clicked, you will be taken back to the FCC ULS website to administer any licenses held.

    • 5

Click on "Manage Licenses" on your main account page and enter the currently held FCC Ham radio license identifying station call-sign and your Social Security number. Once these have been entered, click the "Next" button at the bottom of the license information entry screen. On this following screen, make any changes to street address necessary then submit to complete.
