Radio Shack DSP 40 Instructions

Radio Shack's DSP 40 noise-reduction communications transceiver is run from your computer desktop to monitor and transmit noise-controlled ham, high-frequency marine, short wave and CB signals. Though no longer available in the company's storefronts, it's still a useful tool to organize your radio channels while outputting 5 watts of signal and reducing background noise. To use the DSP 40, connect it to your radio(s) with the proper cables and learn the basic rules of operation.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Radio Shack DSP 40 by turning the volume knob clockwise until it clicks on. A red power indicator will light up.

    • 2

Use your receiver to locate a strong local signal. Press "DSP" on your DSP 40.

    • 3

Slowly increase the volume with your radio until the green DSP light flickers, indicating the signal is being filtered through your DSP 40.

    • 4

Set your volume to a comfortable level from your DSP 40 and not your radio receiver.

    • 5

Select the filter you'd like to apply to the signal you're receiving. Choose among pressing the DSP 40's buttons for "NR" for reducing static or hissing sounds, "SSB" for deadening adjacent signals or "CW" to block out distortion during Morse communications.

    • 6

Adjust the DSP 40's bandwidth to suit your signal sound, starting with a wide setting and adjusting toward narrow to reduce ancillary noise.
