Bearcat 210 Instructions

The Electra Company of Cumberland, Indiana, made the Bearcat 210 radio scanner, introducing it in the late 1970s. In the mid-1980s, Uniden acquired the Bearcat line and introduced new models. The Bearcat 210 scans 10 channels in the FM band from 32 megahertz to 512 MHz, which covered police and public service bands. While many services have migrated to newer trunking radio systems, the Bearcat 210 can still monitor radio traffic in communities that use the older frequencies.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the radio by attaching the telescoping antenna and plugging in the power cord. Turn the "Volume" control knob clockwise to turn on the radio. Adjust the "Squelch" control knob clockwise until you hear a hissing noise. Turn it back until the noise disappears.

    • 2

Program your scanner with up to 10 different frequencies. First press the "Manual" button. The channel number you are about to program will appear on the left side of the display. Use the numeric keypad to specify the frequency, including the decimal point. Press the "E" key to enter the frequency. Press the "Manual" button again to move to the next channel. When you finish programming all channels, press the "Scan" button to begin scanning.

    • 3

Lock out a channel by pressing the "Lockout" button. This may be necessary if that channel's frequency is broadcasting a constant signal, preventing the Bearcat 210 from scanning other channels. If desired, press the "Delay" button to cause the scanner to pause on a channel for about two seconds after a transmission ends. This is useful when a two-way conversation takes place on the same frequency, as it allows time to receive the reply. Note that turning off the scanner clears the lock out and delay settings.

Conduct a search for unknown frequencies by first pressing "Manual" to select the channel you want to use for searching. This will overwrite any previous frequency stored on that channel. Use the numeric keys to enter the frequency at the lower end of the range you want to search and press "Lower." Enter the frequency at the upper end of the range and press "Upper." Press "Start" to begin the search. The scanner will stop when it detects a signal. To stay on that frequency, press "Hold." If you wish to save the frequency, press "Manual" to skip to the next channel. To continue the search without saving the frequency, press "Start."
