How to Locate a Ham Radio License

There may be a time when you will need to locate a ham radio license. The official source is the Federal Communications Commission's Universal Licensing System (FCC ULS). You also may do so through various private ham radio websites. Both the FCC and ham radio websites allow advanced searches, but the FCC's search function offers the most options for searching, allowing you to look up all ham operators in a city. Many new ham radio operators use the FCC ULS database to look up their call sign so that they may transmit on the ham frequencies before their actual license arrives in the mail.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Licensing" on the main menu of the FCC's home page (see the Resources section). You will need to scroll down to find it in the left column of links.
