How to Replace a Lost Ham Radio License

The FCC no longer requires amateur radio operators to be in physical possession of a license copy before operating, but it is a good idea to have a copy anyway. You will need a copy to show the DMV one in order to get a car license plate with your callsign on it, for example. Also, you may need a copy to show to police officers, etc. to prove that you really are legally transmitting from that mountain-top location. And if nothing else, most hams like to display a copy of their license in their ham shack.
