How to Set Digital Scanner Uniden Bearcat BCD 396T

Uniden's Bearcat BCD 396T compact handheld scanner is one of the few scanners on the market which can receive the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials radio standard called APCO 25, which is a digital-only radio system in use by some big-city police departments like the Los Angeles Police Department. The scanners are considerably more expensive than their conventional, analog counterparts and are considerably more complicated too. They have pre-programmed coverage for more than 400 cities, however.

Instructions

    • 1

Lock out the cities that are beyond your reception area or that you aren't interested in listening to. The Uniden Bearcat BCD 396T will automatically scan every frequency for the 400 cities in memory. Lock out the cities to speed up scanning. This is particularly important if you are near cities that you don't want to listen to using the same frequency as cities that you do want to listen to. Press and hold "FUNC."

    • 2

Rotate the scroll control to select a system you want to lock out.

    • 3

Keep holding "FUNC" and press "L/O" to lock out the system.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 1 to 3 to lock out further systems.

    • 5

Delete systems to free up memory. For example, you can delete systems in Florida if you live in California and have no intention of ever going to Florida. Press "MENU" and then choose Select the System followed by Delete the System. The deleted systems can't be restored.
