Things You'll Need
Instructions
Open the kit and check the contents to ensure that you have each part needed. You will have: a base mounting plate, three guy wires measuring eight feet each, three eye bolts, and a package of bolts and nuts along with wood screws to make the various connections and attachments.
Locate an area on the peak of the roof where you will install the antenna. The area should be clear of any power or electrical lines. Use the stud finder to locate the trusses and mark their location for drilling. Lay down the base-support mounting plate for the mast over a truss and mark the location for the holes.
Drill a 1/4-inch pilot hole through each mark for the base plate. Lay the plate back over the holes and insert a bolt through each hole and tighten it down to secure the plate to the roof.
Measure out three locations that are each eight feet from the base plate and equally distant around the base plate (at roughly 120-degree intervals). Each of these locations will have a mast support with guy wires. Locate a truss at each position and mark it. Drill a 1/4-inch pilot hole at each of the three marks.
Screw an eye bolt into each of the three pilot holes. Tighten them down using the wrench.
Slide the antenna onto the top end of the mast, and tighten the preinstalled clamps to the mast. Use screwdriver and wrench to tighten them down.
Take the male end of the coaxial cable that is leading from the receiver in the house and connect it to the female connector that is preinstalled on the antenna. Insert the end of the male connector into the end of the female connector and screw the two threaded connectors together to form a tight connection. Use the wrench to tighten them down. This will connect the antenna to the receiver for operation.
Insert the bottom of the mast into the base plate. Line up the pre-drilled hole in the bottom of the mast with the hole in the plate, insert a bolt from the kit through each hole and tighten them down. Using the level, position and hold the mast so that it is in a perfectly vertical position. Have an assistant hold the antenna steady while you secure the guy wires.
Attach one end of each of the guy wires to each of the three eye bolts screwed into the roof. One by one attach the remaining end of each guy wire to the guy wire plate, which is preinstalled on the antenna mast. Pull each guy wire tight while holding the antenna straight, and tighten them down using the bolts and screws from the kit.
Apply roof tar around the base plate and eye bolts, using the putty knife, to prevent any rain from seeping through.
