Things You'll Need
Instructions
Get your license: you must have a license in order to operate a ham radio. Each country licenses ham radio operators in their country. You can usually contact your local amateur radio club or emergency management agency to get more information on how to get licensed in your area.
Purchase a ham radio. You must have a ham radio in order to communicate with people using amateur radio. Good quality ham radios can be purchased through the mail, on the internet, or through local ham radio or electronics specialty retailers.
Join ham radio and related organizations. By networking with other ham radio enthusiasts you can find other people to talk to on the radio. Also, as ham operator Dan Miller stated in a recent unpublished interview, this "is for the fun of making contacts in far away places."
Get on the radio. You can only find people to talk to on the radio if you actually get on the ham radio and talk.
