How to Install a Uniden Pro 510 Mobile CB Radio

A Uniden 510 Citizen's Band radio is a 40 channel transceiver that can be mounted to the dashboard of most vehicles, allowing 4 watts of communication power for emergency or non-commercial use. The small casing allows easy installation with a U-shaped mounting bracket that holds it to the underside of a dashboard. The radio can be installed by an average backyard mechanic in about twenty minutes.

Instructions

  1. Installation of a Uniden 510 CB radio

    • 1

Determine the best mounting location for the radio by placing it against the dashboard in various positions. The radio must have its speaker, front panel, and microphone accessible when mounted.

    • 2

Mount the U-shaped mounting bracket to the dashboard with the two screws provided by turning them clockwise. The self-tapping screws should drive into the soft plastic of most dashboards without pre-drilled holes, but if mounting to a metal surface then these holes may need to be drilled beforehand. The bracket should fit tightly, and not move or wiggle when mounted.

    • 3

Mount the radio to the bracket with the provided finger screws by turning them in a clockwise direction. The sides of the Uniden will have small screw holes, and the bracket's holes will line up with them for screw placement. These screws also tilt the radio, so that the display can be easily viewed while in use.

    • 4

Wire the radio's power wires to the vehicle's power source by running the positive wire to the fuse panel, and the radio's negative wire to a solid ground. Any fuse in the fuse panel can provide power, but choosing a fuse that is switched to the ignition will cut the radio off when the vehicle is not in use. The negative lead should be run to a frame-grounded screw and secured. Wrap all connections with a liberal amount of electrical tape.

    • 5

Attach the antenna cable to the radio by turning its adapter to the plug in a clockwise direction. The antenna cable will run to an antenna, which can be mounted in any convenient location. The antenna should be firmly grounded.
