How to Make a Stencil Decal on a Model Train

There are several benefits to the hobby of building model train sets. Not only do you get to engage in a hands on activity while building trains and the sets, but you also end up with a lasting working keepsake to show off to friends and loved ones. You can personalize your trains by adding logos or decals to them using a stencil and spray on train set paint, making your train set more individualistic.

Instructions

    • 1

Print your chosen decal or logo onto card stock, ensuring it is scaled to size.

    • 2

Use a craft knife to cut out the design or lettering, leaving just the surrounding card stock.

    • 3

Place the card stock on the train in the exact place you want your decal and tape it in place.

    • 4

Cover any remaining exposed areas with newspaper and secure it with more tape.

    • 5

Using a horizontal sweeping motion, spray a coating of paint over the card stock. Keep the button pressed firmly from start to finish to ensure an even coating. Repeat if necessary.

    • 6

Allow the paint to dry completely.

    • 7

Remove the card stock and newspaper.
