How to Disassemble the P2K GP20

The P2K GP20 is a scale-model train engine replica made by Atlas. The engine has two truck assemblies (the wheels and suspension system where the rails meet the wheels), dimmer lights and the powered gas engine. You should know how to take apart the P2K GP20 in case repairs are necessary. Disassemble the model using small, hobby size Phillips screwdrivers. For the intricate parts, hold the model under a magnifying glass light.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the white towel next to the model train. Position the magnifying light over your work area. As you disassemble the small parts, place them on the white towel to prevent loss.

    • 2

Hold the model under the magnifying glass and unscrew the coupler screws on the bottom of the model. Slide the coupler off the model.

    • 3

Unscrew the trucks and pull them off the model, taking care to unscrew the wires leading from the wheels to the engine.

    • 4

Pull the fuel tank off by prying up and off the engine. Find the two shell screws hidden beneath the fuel tank, unscrew them, and push the four set-tabs down. Pop the shell off when the tabs are pressed down.
