DIY Channel Model Railroad

A channel railroad bridge is designed to support the passage of trains over a channel of water. These bridges are a necessity in areas where channels are prevalent. Most channel bridges are high above the water, allowing the passage of ships under the bridge. In a model railroad setting, you can create a channel and bridge for the model railway to pass over. This is especially useful in the remaking of city landmarks around the world where channels are present.

Instructions

    • 1

Create the channel from sculpting putty. The channel should be several inches deep to look realistic. The top sides of the channel should meet up with the base level of the surrounding area. Sculpt a jagged channel from the sculpting putty and allow it to dry 24 hours.

    • 2

Paint the putty to look like the ocean. Use dark colors, such as dark green and blue to paint the sides of the mold. Glue sand along the edges of the channel.

    • 3

Fill the inside of the channel with acrylic gel. This will give the water a 3D effect. Build up the gel around the edges of the channel and randomly across the surface to look like waves. Allow the gel to dry 24 hours.

    • 4

Place the bridge over the two sides of the channel. Glue the bridge in place, or anchor it with screws. Attach other train track pieces to either side of the bridge to complete the track circuit.
