How to Bevel a Cork Bed for a Model Railroad Track

Working on your model railroad allows you to customize different aspects of your railroad, such as the roadbed, to your own design. If you purchase specialized cork roadbed meant for model railroads, it may already come with a beveled edge. However, if you make your own from a sheet of cork board, you may want to bevel the edges of your roadbed for a more realistic look. For accuracy, beveled edges should be at about a 45-degree angle.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a protractor along the short end of the piece of cork roadbed you are cutting.

    • 2

Mark the end of the cork roadbed at a 45-degree angle to help you start your cut.

    • 3

Place the razor blade or hobby knife against the cork roadbed, lining it up with the mark you made. Cut the roadbed in a smooth motion, trying to maintain the angle.

    • 4

Use a cut piece of cork roadbed to start the cut on the next piece to ensure a uniform bevel around your railroad.
