Things You'll Need
Instructions
Mark the location of the model railroad turntable on your train layout. Turntable kits come with a round paper template to provide you with a guide for where to cut into the train board. All you have to do is trace around the outside of the paper template with a pencil.
Drill a hole with the electric drill somewhere on the line that you drew. This hole will give the jigsaw blade access so that you can cut out the turntable access hole.
Insert the jigsaw blade into the hole that you drilled and cut out the turntable access hole along the line that you drew.
Place the turntable dish into the access hole and align the turntable track with the tracks on your train layout so that each time the turntable stops, it precisely lines up with your train layout's track. Draw a line on both the turntable and the train layout. This will provide you a reference point for when you install the turntable.
Remove the turntable dish from the train layout and apply a bead of silicone sealant around the perimeter of the hole. This will prevent the dish from moving out of its intended location and derailing the locomotives.
Press the turntable dish into the silicone sealant, being careful to press it all the way down against the train layout so that where the tracks meet, there is no change in the height of the tracks. Align the mark on the turntable to the mark on the layout so the turntable is properly positioned.
Connect the turntable's power lines to the accessory power on your train layout power pack. If your turntable includes a wired switch, mount the switch near the turntable with wood screws and a screwdriver.
