How to Build Scenery for Buildings

Show your artistic creativity when you build scenery for the buildings in your model train landscape. There are many commercial materials available to create realistic scenery. Scenery can be used to create the illusion that the landscape is larger than it is in reality. Surround your buildings with evergreen trees and grass to create realistic scenery.

Things You'll Need

  • Pine cones
  • Heavy-duty gloves
  • Glue
  • Pan
  • Blended turf (ground green foam)

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the ground around your buildings with a tan color. Cover the entire surface with a thin layer of ground foam while the paint is still wet. When the paint dries, the ground will appear to be covered in grass.

    • 2

Remove the outer layer of the pine cone so that you are holding the pine cone core. Mix water and diluted white glue using four parts water to one part glue.

    • 3

Dip the cone-core into the glue. Let the excess drip off the cone after you lift it out of the mixture. Hold the cone over a pan and sprinkle blended turf over the pine cone spine. Use fine ground green foam for the turf. Glue the base of the cone to the scenery around the building.

    • 4

Repeat steps 2 through 3 to create multiple trees around your buildings.
