How to Make a Lionel Train Layout

Lionel train layouts provide hobbyists, young and old, the flexibility to create and customize a scene to build a town, train depot, lumber mill, farm, park or just about anything else imaginable. The size and complexity of the layout would be limited only by the owner's available space and imagination. Upon completion of the train track layout, you can add accessories such as scenery, buildings and people to create a realistic look.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a solid flat surface, a piece of plywood or a train table to accommodate the train layout.

    • 2

Layout the track pieces on the surface according to the desired track plan. The track plan could be one purchased, copied or designed yourself. The track pieces will slide into each other, allowing the rail joiners to form a continuous electrical current.

    • 3

Verify that the track fits nicely on the surface and that the rail joiners are secure.

    • 4

Secure the track pieces to the surface with rail spikes and then connect to the power pack.

    • 5

Add buildings, mountains, roads, tunnels, trees or people to achieve the desired look. Use glue to secure permanent accessories.
