How to Clean LGB Trains

Playing with model trains is a pastime that has been enjoyed for many years. The LGB, or Lehmann Gross Bahn, trains are G-scale trains, meaning they are one of the larger versions of model trains. Children of all ages can enjoy building a track, collecting train cars and watching the train along its journey. Just like with any other appliance or equipment, a model train will need maintenance and cleaning. The inner workings of an LGB model train are delicate, and without proper cleaning, the train will not run.

Things You'll Need

Tweezers
Cotton swab
Towel
Toothpicks
Light solvent oil
Small broom
Cloth
Rubbing alcohol

Instructions

Cleaning the Engine

  Turn off the train and unplug it from the electrical outlet.

  Clean the wheels by taking a pair of tweezers and removing any clumps or fibers.

  Remove grime or grit from the engine by taking a cotton swab and wiping it away.

  Use a toothpick dipped in light solvent oil (such as WD-40) to clean and lube the joints and contact surfaces.
Cleaning the Track

  Check the track for any debris. Using a small broom, sweep away any loose dirt or debris.

  Soak a cloth in rubbing alcohol and then rub the cloth down the track. Make sure you are removing all dirt and dust particles that can interfere with the components of the train's engine.

  Wipe down your control center and transformer with a clean cloth. Prevent it from getting dusty because dust particles with interfere with the controls.
