How to Make a Lionel Train Display

Building a model train display can be a fun hobby for train enthusiasts of all ages. Lionel is one of the best-known names in model trains. The company was established in 1900, and is a one-stop shop for everything you'll need to set up a train display.

Things You'll Need

Large, flat surface such as a table
Lionel train set (includes trains and track)
Miniature buildings (optional)
Fake miniature plants (optional)

Instructions

  Remove your Lionel model train set carefully from its packaging. Because Lionel's trains are designed to look like the real thing, they have several small, fragile parts.

  Select a layout for your Lionel model train display. You may purchase a layout design, use one of the suggestions included within the packaging of your Lionel model train purchase or make your own.

  Lay the track down first, attaching track sections with provided connectors. Depending on your experience level, you may keep the train all on one level, or may opt to add multiple levels. If you choose to add multiple levels, use the correct type of track. You may also need additional supports (such as boxes or bricks) on which to set higher-level tracks.

  Add in extra elements to your display, such as buildings, foliage and people.
