How to Install Lights in N Scale Passenger Cars

Avid model railroading enthusiasts constantly search for new ways to make their train layouts more realistic and lifelike. And N-scale railroaders are certainly no exception. Adding lighting to your N-scale passenger cars will certainly enhance your model railroading enjoyment as well as add to the appearance of your rolling stock. This is a relatively easy task to accomplish requiring virtually no electrical skills, soldering, or complex wiring. And best of all, you will only need a couple of common hobby tools to complete the job.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Using your fingernails or the edge of the hobby knife, carefully pry off the roof of your passenger car. Inside you will see two vertical plastic posts. These posts make contact with the inside ends of the car providing the friction needed to hold the roof in place. Set lower portion of the passenger car aside for now.

    • 2

Using the tweezers, install the two button batteries into the corresponding holders at one end of the lighting kit. The lights at either end should immediately begin to glow.

    • 3

Slip the light strip in between the two vertical plastic posts referenced earlier. The "Easy Peasy" lights have been specifically designed to fit into this space.

    • 4

Reinstall the roof of the passenger car onto the lower portion you set aside earlier. The lights should illuminate the interior of the car and shine out through the windows.

    • 5

Turn off the lights. Touch the bare metal end of the lighting wand to the top of the car, and press the padded vinyl switch on the opposite end of the wand. The lights will immediately shut off.
