Things You'll Need
Instructions
Disassemble the engine until you get to the piston sleeve. Lay the parts out as you remove them so you remember how to put them back together. Clean the parts as you remove them with a soft cloth if they are dirty.
Note the location of the exhaust and boost ports on the sleeve before you remove it. Mark them if necessary. The exhaust port will be aligned with the exhaust flange, and the boost port is opposite the exhaust port.
Round the edge at the bottom of the sleeve with a grinding tool on slow speed. Rounding the edge maximizes the flow of the gas and air mixture as it moves past the sleeve. Polish the rounded edge and clean away any grinding grit.
Bevel the bottom outside edge of the boost port so the edge angles in at the top. Use a small grinding bit on low speed. Polish the beveled edge and clean away any grinding grit. Repeat on the transfer ports. These are the other two ports on the sleeve.
Use a file to create a groove extending from the bottom corner of each transfer port closest to the exhaust port. This will help guide the gas and air mixture away from the exhaust port. Match the angle of the groove to angle of the transfer passage in the engine block. Polish and clean the area.
Oil the sleeve and reassemble the engine.
