How to Replace an RC Transmitter Antenna

RC transmitter antennas consist of a single coaxial wire that is held in place with an antenna shaft. Occasionally, antenna wires are damaged during use, which may be caused by accidentally dropping the transmitter or it getting water or heat damage. Replacement of a RC transmitter antenna is a straightforward procedure that requires only a screwdriver to install.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the battery from the RC transmitter. Remove the six screws located on the back of the transmitter housing with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 2

Gently pull the transmitter housing halves apart. Use your fingers to pull the antenna wire's spade-shaped connector out of the RF module by holding on to the wire as close to the connector as you can and pulling it straight up.

    • 3

Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw holding the antenna base plate to the transmitter housing. Pull the antenna assembly out of the transmitter.

    • 4

Insert the new antenna wire into the shaft of the antenna assembly and thread it through so that the spade-shaped connector comes out of the rectangle-shaped hole at the base of the antenna shaft. Replace the antenna shaft onto the transmitter housing and use the screw you just removed to reattach it to the transmitter.

    • 5

Move the connector end of the antenna wire over to the RF module of the transmitter. Carefully line up the spade-shaped connector with the RF connector and push it down until you hear it snap into place. Move the wire back and forth to ensure that the connector is secure on the RF connector.

    • 6

Move wires that are near the edges of the transmitter housing to prevent them from being pinched.

    • 7

Carefully close the two halves of the transmitter housing back together. Use the Phillips screw driver to install the six screws and secure the two transmitter housing halves together.

    • 8

      Reinstall the battery.

    • 9

Test the transmitter to ensure that the antenna now works by turning on the RC model and walking 30 steps away from the model. Stand with the transmitter pointed at the model; if you installed the antenna correctly you will be able to control the model.
