How to Upgrade Stainless Steel IR to Ceramic Charbroil

Gas grills manufactured today may have an electric burner that uses infrared heating. This type of heating is known as radiant heat. You can upgrade your stainless steel grill to a ceramic charbroil with a universal fit porcelain heat plate. This accessory replaces the lava rocks and charcoal briquettes that are used to distribute heat to the metal grate of the grill.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the lid of the grill and remove the metal grate that sits on top of the burners. If you have lava rocks or charcoal briquettes laying inside the grill, take them out and set them aside.

    • 2

Measure the inside width and depth of your grill with a tape measure. Adjust the size of the heat plate to match the measurements of the grill.

    • 3

Insert the support rods into the holes at each corner of the heat plate. Tighten the support rods by using a screwdriver.

    • 4

Place the universal porcelain fit heat plate inside the grill. The heat plate will sit on top of the burners. Set the metal grate back in place.
