How to Make an Ice Transducer

Water transducers are used in fishing to aid the user in viewing the fish or other structures that they may not see beneath the surface of the water. The transducer relies on a sensor that floats to the bottom of the body of water. These transducers don't work in ice water, as they are too light. However, you can create a makeshift ice transducer using your existing water transducer and a bottle of water.

Things You'll Need

  • Water bottle
  • Water transducer
  • Drill
  • Zipper tie

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the water bottle cap from the water bottle. Drill two small holes through the top of the water bottle cap on opposite sides.

    • 2

Place the water transducer's sensor on top of the water bottle cap. Tie the two objects together by inserting the zipper tie into both holes on the water bottle cap, then connecting and tightening the two sides of the zipper tie.

    • 3

Fill your water bottle with water, then screw the cap back onto the bottle, connecting the entire bottle to the transducer.

    • 4

Drop the sensor, now tied to the water bottle, into ice water. Since water is heavier in its liquid form than in its ice form, the sensor will sink instead of float.
