How to Rotate a Hollow Shaft

Hollow shaft encoders are used in machine control, process control, food processing, and metering and perform rotating functions for certain machines. These devices contain a clamping jaw that can only be opened by rotating the hollow shaft itself. With the help of a retention pin, which comes with your hollow shaft encoder, you can easily rotate the shaft.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the retention pin into one of the holes on the hollow shaft. The holes are located on either side of the edge of the hollow shaft.

    • 2

Push the retention pin up to begin rotating the hollow shaft. Once the shaft has rotated 180 degrees, the pin will engage and the clamping jaw is accessible.

    • 3

Pull the pin back to its original position to close the clamping jaw. Remove the pin.
