How to Install Fasteners With a Turret Press

Installing fasteners with a turret press requires the use of a bench plate. A bench plate will allow you to quickly change out the turret press and other mounted accessories. The bench plate is mounted onto your table or workbench where you use the turret press. You need to determine the placement of the bench press before beginning the project.

Things You'll Need

  • Bench plate kit
  • 1/4 inch drill bit
  • Power drill
  • Lag bolts
  • Socket wrench
  • Felt tip marker
  • 5/16 inch drill bit
  • Elevator bolts
  • Wrench

Instructions

    • 1

Place the long side of the bench plate so it is flush along the edge of a table or bench. The six-sided hole on the bench plate needs to be facing to the left.

    • 2

Position the Z-brackets included with the bench plate diagonally over the two holes on each side of the bench plate. Tighten, by hand, the 1/4 inch pan head screws to secure the Z-brackets.

    • 3

Insert a 1/4 inch drill bit into the chuck of the power drill. Drill a hole into the bench at the hole at each corner of the bench plate. Insert a lag bolt into each hole and tighten with the socket wrench.

    • 4

Insert a 5/16 inch drill bit into the chuck of the power drill. Drill a hole into the six sided hole and into the circular hole on the right.

    • 5

Place the base block included with the bench plate kit against the bottom of your turret press. Mark the placement of the mounting holes with the felt tip marker. Drill holes into the base block with the power drill.

    • 6

Set the base block against the bottom of your turret press. Insert an elevator bolt into each hole and then attach a nut onto each bolt. Tighten the nuts to secure the base block with the wrench.

    • 7

Align the base block with the Z-brackets on the bench plate. Slide the base block into position and then tighten the pan head screws to clamp the Z-brackets onto the base block.
