How to Count Yardage on a Sectional Warp Beam

A sectional warp beam is the piece of a loom that has four strips divided into sections that attach to the warp beam. U-shaped cramps are used to divide these strips into 1-inch to 2-inch sections. Cramps help to keep the warp threads contained in their specific section on the loom. Up to 1/2 a yard of yarn is held by the section strips when attached to the warp beam.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of yarn in each section of the loom by using the measuring tape. If a section cannot be measured make a note for an estimate of the length. An example for the length is 37.5 feet.

    • 2

Measure the length of the warp beam. Make a note of the measurement. An average estimate is 22 inches.

    • 3

Count the number of sections that have been attached to the warp beam. If the warp beam measures 22 inches and each section is 1 inch, you will have 22 sections.

    • 4

Write out the equation used to calculate the yardage of yarn for the warp beam. This equation will look like ̶0;37.5 x 22̶1; for a result of 825 feet of yarn. Divide 825 by 3 to convert the result to yards.
